Good old Progressive can be a bit too serious for its own good, like a Tumblr full of photography and life affirming cliches. Vinayak’s unrestrained psychedelia on Sands Of Goa and forced ambient classical strains on Sometimes It Just Turns Into Reality can be a little too earnestly emotional for their own good. Almost like a small dog desperately jumping into your face to grab your attention, you want to just step back and have a moment to gather. God bless the art of the remix.
At the complete polar opposite to the original of Sands Of Goa, Pig And Dan’s remix manages to conjure atmosphere without resorting to layers of neon fluff. It purrs, it whirrs and measures its crests and falls to perfection. Michael Cassette manages to take the Arabic moans of Sometimes It Just Turns Into Reality and twist them into a suitable adlib for an 80′s influenced melodic progressive remix. Even the most twinkly of the remixes, Hernan Catteneo & SoundExile’s headline take on Sands Of Goa, manages to weave a virtuoso’s touch around the pitfalls of exhausted motifs and techniques. A lesson in the old adage of less is more from the masters.
