Slok feat. My Favorite Robot // I Feel Alive [Circle Music]
Three is the magic number, or so I have been lead to believe. It certainly seems to be a rule that Italian producer Slok has adhered when it came to selecting vocals for his latest release on Circle Music, I Feel Alive. Adding a certain organic nature to the vocals, My Favorite Robot – who are Voytek Korab, James Teej and Jared Simms – are a breath of fresh air in a market that is starting to become saturated in lazy R&B sampling and retro House pilfering.
Slok’s original flavour builds over time, gradually introducing bassy House bounce over the minor organ hook, and then adding breadth as layers of high end join the mix. The rather in demand and sought after Subb-an offers a much more direct remix. less languid and more serious in style, every element pumps that little bit more. Bassdrums kick with more intent, the synths, bass and leads command more drama.
Possibly the most varied in style, Lopazz & CasioCasino’s remix builds for half the duration before flicking the switch to rise into a new dimension. Like a wizard with concealed pockets, extra basslines and twinkling pads are pulled from nowhere to help finish the mix, and this package with a flourish.
