Siopis // Habo Letki [Quantized Music]

This is a great example of doing an EP properly, an excellent virtual A-side and two varied remixes to support. Add in a quirky and delicious virtual B-side to the proceedings and it’s a package wrapped to perfection.
The Original mix contains some super tripped out dubbyness with a lush arrangement permeating the sonic landscape. There is a perfect balance of ambient backing and front of house detail in the production too, which I just love to hear. The main elements such as kik bass and hats sit full of vigour, whilst the soundscape touches on beauty and desolation in equal measures. Very deep and satisfying stuff indeed.
The other remixes fit the bill too with the Alex Dim version hitting a huge and deep vibe. Using loads of space, retro touches, those kiks and KILLER basslines, this will open many sets for me in coming weeks for sure!
The David Kassi remix straddles Maceo and Maetrik vibes brilliantly. With crawling, sleazed out basslines and stripped, yet exceptional beats, this has me grabbed straight off. When we hit the break it’s incessant reverb laden stabs are sunk into the consciousness via a beautiful break of events. This drops in, raising the spirit and level of the track perfectly with some subtle fill FX and extra percs hitting it home. Simple, done at it’s very best.
Siopis 2nd Original on show here, Ben Is Gone, has a menagerie of sound to get involved with in here with wonked out Detriot stabs supporting the sound initially but also the robo-vox that crashes the party and catches the attention to be the main focus, only requiring (for me) a big 2nd half kick to push this into the essential category. Despite this, it’s still a brilliant and fresh climax to the EP, which has a perfect spread of sounds to enjoy, share or perform. Deceptively clever stuff here, thank you Quantized.
