Hot! SHA Review Roundup – Lost My Dog // Keinemusik // Toy Tonics // Deep Edition // Depaart

With a slew of quality releases arriving here at SHA Towers, it’s time for a neat round-up of recent tracks, Mike 13 checks them out…

Pete DaFeet // Beneath the Fold [Lost My Dog]
Some sweet beats from Pete himself in the typical LMD style, with Hopkins being the pick of the Original Tracks here being a dreamy dubby journey. Demarkus Lewis lays things down in a direct manner with Giom’s mix being the pick of the bunch. It’s a rock-solid-production with a tougher edge in 2012 for him, with some sizzling arrangement throughout. It would also be an epic track with a vocal over it, however I am sure there will be someone out there with an accapella to make this fly.

David Mayer // Celsius [Keinemusik]
If it’s a deep sonic excursion you’re looking to ride along too, Celsius comes highly recommended. Some gentle tribal toms provide a lovely intro as the beats fall into place, with the bass falling in a crescendo before being doubled with the synth. There’s some tidy sound design in here as we hit the break, which pads out in an ethereal manner and will hold the floor well. There’s also a highly useful synth-tool, which creative types will be able to explore with aplomb.

DJ Steef // The Preliminary [Toy Tonics]
Dj Steef AKA Frédéric Berthet has been one of Marseilles main proponents for deep, disco influenced house music, therefore it’s no surprise to find six excellent slices of sonic-joy here. There’s plenty of playfulness in tracks such as Angels Behind Bars and Flech. Nocturne and More Lifes pumps up the playfulness things up well too, and are killer grooves to get involved with, especially when we hit Nocturnes keys.

Venusian Missing throws out the 70s vibes with some heady vocals and vintage synthwork complimenting each other well before delivering some serious d-floor funk at the break. It’s then left to Fomo Men, which is, quite simply, the real deal here – dishing some brilliant Moroder style mid-synths over a truly irresistible beat – beauty!

Acasual // Blue EP [Deep Edition Recordings]
Deep Editions latest sees me drawn to the remix and title track. The Matches Remix is a really strong piece of work, which is bright and punchy without being overly produced. There some deep-bass loveliness which is tamed well and is wistful, accomplished work. Despite this, I still love the originals aching down-tempo beauty. Blues piano, earnest vocal and respectful 808 drum work compliment the song beautifully. The gentle build throughout is also welcome and suits the proceedings perfectly. Perfect after-hours bliss.

Moliner // Yellow Rights [Depaart]
There’s some great and deep-stuff here, with track Emilia pushing out some luscious synths over some restrained beats. There’s lots of pulsing synths which move well through the mix, some thoughtful spoken-prose and cheeky fx to keep things strictly 2012.

Title track Yellow Rights will have fans of Pezzner drooling as the atmosphere builds and pulses through you perfectly. It’s deep, but driven and immensely satisfying – especially when the drops fall-in perfectly. Love this.
