RA:DAR

The RA:DAR label is a new independent music project, formed as a division of Denis A’s DAR/DAR DIGITAL label group and founded by Denis and seminal Russian music producer Boris The Spyder, for the advancement of Russian electronic music artists. RA:DAR is the sound of modern Russia, looking to the future. It brings together a creative team of young and purposeful people who are passionate about electronic music and lovers of the best quality sounds. They also plan to create unique RA:DAR events to spread their sounds worldwide.

Hello RA:DAR and Welcome to SHA. How are you today?
Denis A: Thank you for the invitation and the opportunity to talk with you. I recently returned from the music conference in Miami, which proved very fruitful and will give even greater impulse to the development of my labels this year. At the moment I’m preparing my 30th release on the DAR Label, which will include my track “Black Sun” with remixes from Jimmy Van M, Luis Junior, Dibby Dougherty, Guy Mantzur & Sahar Z, so its going to be an amazing package! I’m also working on two compilations, one of which will be devoted to the twenty year anniversary of the Kazantip Republic. I can’t say more about this yet, but I’ll let you know more soon!

You have just launched your new record label RA:DAR. Tell us a bit about the label and what it stands for?
Denis A: At some point I realized that I needed to expand the boundaries of genres and make something special under a new label. I have long thought that it could be, and I mentioned this idea to my friend Boris (The Spyder). I’ve known him quite a long time, and in the mid 90′s I listened to his music because he is one of the veterans of electronic music in Russia and has already been working in that direction for some 20 years. We spent a lot of time talking about our ideas and eventually the RA:DAR label was born.

RA:DAR has been described as the sound of modern Russia. How is the electronic music scene in Russia and how has it progressed in recent Years?
Boris: The idea behind RA:DAR is that it’s about a new generation of Russian producers and DJs making music that we try out on the dance floor of the Krysha Mira Club and also other interesting people that we meet along the way! New digital technologies now many people the chance to make music. I like the fact that over the past few years in our country there have appeared a lot of interesting and original young musicians. They are attracting the attention of fans of electronic music, not only in our country, but around the world. And of course some of them, you’re sure to hear on our label!

Being part of the DAR / DAR Digital label group, RA:DAR is looking to introduce new Russian artists to the World. What artists can we look forward to hearing from RA:DAR and what sort of sound do they convey?
Boris: The music that we are presenting has a particular Russian flavour, drawing on influences from techno, house and deep music. Everything will be based at the Krysha Mira Studio to make the concept as cohesive as possible. As regards personalities, I would not want to accidentally forget someone and hurt their feelings if I did not name them, but I can say that what they do deserve more attention and that is what we will be doing release by release.

The next release from RA:DAR will be the double pack I Love You // Mir Na Zemle from Kontrabanda.dj. Due to be fully released on May 2nd tell us a little about this release?
Boris: Kontrabanda.dj is one of the Krysha Mira Studio projects where different parts of the music making is done by different people just visiting the club and who also work in the club. The track “Mir na Zemle” (which translates as “peace on earth”) is a meditation on Rainbow Bridge – 25 july – day out of time by Maya. “I Love You” has been playing a lot of times on the different dance floors and always works really well

Finally, what else will 2012 hold for RA:DAR, we note you mention unique events, anything in the pipeline?
Denis A: This year we will focus on the issue of new releases on the label. We are also working on the concept of our branded parties under the RA:DAR banner, both in Moscow and other places in Russia as well as in Kiev (Ukraine), and of course the anniversary of Kazantip this summer.
