Rodion & Mammarella // Appennini EP [Slow Motion]
Since 2009 Slow Motion have had high expectations of their output and expressing the need to play ‘perfect soundtrack for the events and parties’. This track, from Rodian & Mamarella, absolutely succeeds in reaching those lofty ambitions.
With huge swathes of arped synths, Marjella gets things flying with smart programming, smart vibes and cool electronica. It bring’s the 70’s sordid disco beats and basslines right up to a modern heat and is a pretty irresistible groove for those who love a groove.
The Remix of Escape from Kyoto (Alien Alien Remix) is for me, utterly cool and a sound I find hugely nostalgic. It throws me back to some of Pet Shop Boys best work, such as, 1986’s seminal Introspective, and especially Paninaro which referenced 1980s Italian youth subculture known as the Paninari. It’s calm, collected and calculated and sounds glorious at full blast.
So how do we beat that? We go for the perfect peak-time, 100% killer vibe, don’t we? Take the Original ‘Escape from Kyoto’mix, grab some elements of disco and techno, laugh at the audience, then smash it together to make an incredible vibe. Check out the breaks on this and bass-changes as the tracks pick up perfectly and keeps smashing away – it’s just sublime.
This is genuinely thrilling music to listen to – a deadly beat, glorious arrangement and yet still incredibly euphoric. So, in conclusion: Moroder for the modern masses? Oh yes!
