Ripperton & Agnes // It’s Time [STHLMaudio Recordings]

Ripperton once again teams up with frequent collaborator Agnes to take turns in putting their stamp on It’s Time.
A builder in the purest sense of the word, Ripperton draws out coastal washes, faint sitar and a repeated mantra over 12 minutes. There is no big release for this tease, the merest drop of the heavy kick every now and again is as much as you’ll get for a breakdown. You would be missing the point if you needle dropped through the release and concluding that there was a lack of dynamism; it is the gradual interweaving of elements over the duration that could absolutely hold a dancefloor in rapture for the duration that is the key here.
Agnes sports a bit more diversity; the vocal, once paired with some very loose beats and a retro bassline, takes on a more classically House mood while retaining the synths and sitar motifs. While there is much more activity on the Agnes version, my heart keeps drifting back to the swell of Ripperton’s version, that sub laden kick causing my eyes to defocus and thoughts to drift into the clouds. It’s time to dream.
