Nick Harris // Redux EP [Stoned Immaculate]

We are big fans of Nick Harris here at SHA. His NRK label was one of the finest in house music memory and a contender for best UK label ever in the genre.
Now with his new Stoned Immaculate brand, he gets to focus on his own productions. This has been good news so far and thankfully the trend continues.
His sound is rooted in the real vibe of house, think Mood II Swing, Kerri Chandler, Quentin Harris and similar being given a trip for some brand new clothes and box fresh trainers.
Opener “Theme From Stoned Immaculate” is a case in point with its proper house ethos, sensitive approach and thoughtful aspect. All surging groove, organic house elements and a hauntingly electronic brush give it a familiar yet fresh feel.
A new venture on the label is a vocal track and that’s exactly what “Situation” is. There are fewer gems in the genre these days with many simply apeing the success of the early 90s pioneers. This definitely has a reference to the kind of tracks that used to be the staple of DJs like Graeme Park and Tony Humphries back in the day. However, it has that previously-mentioned modernisation vibe that refers to a past but brings it up all relevant and urgent.
For the dub-minded out there….there is a dub as well. A deep clean take of the original with acidic undertones, breakdowns aplenty and a vibe mot a million miles away from Dennis Ferrer’s “Sandcastles”. Again, this is very good news from a label that this grizzled reviewer hopes lasts as long as NRK did.
