Mirza – Zadeh // Heart Of Glass EP [Lucidflow]

Darkness. This is the path I feel that Lucidflow has led me down over the past few months. Of course this is the good sort of gloom, that of atmosphere and reflection, rather than the large scale soaking I received on the way to Sainsburys a few weekends ago. Just to keep you on your toes, here come Mirza-Zadeh, tearing up the form book, with an EP of light airy melody.
Feelings of nostalgia washed over me, much like the synths in the title track itself, reminding me of the floating dreamlike atmopheres on Wamdue Projects classic Resource Toolbook, an oft overlooked Strictly Rhythm classic from the mid nineties. While the beats are bright and bouncy in the opening trio of Heart Of Glass, Tachyon and Bar-B-Q, the electronics are most certainly aquatic, gently flowing around you with swells and foamy breaks.
Bernado’s Sarangi offers a pause in mood, a sitar flecked downtempo track – think along the lines of Theivery Corporation for a parallel – before Reflection sneakily allows some wavetable dub synths to trojan their way into your headphones, that trademark Lucidflow sound, proving every silver cloud has a dub lining.
