Lexy vs Shades Of Gray // Dondi Bisco [Moensterbox]
Berlin based Moensterbox pair up label owner Lexy with Aussie/Czech combo Shades Of Gray for a double header of disco flavoured sample nuggets fulfilling their playful spoonerism names.
Title track Dondi Bisco welcomes the listener with a warm, wavy flow peppered with whirled up disco samples. Perfectly acceptable to get any dancefloor interested. The second track Cariah Marey is really where the meat is though.
A darker undertone led by a sinister rumble builds up to a breakdown of Mariah Carey chopped up vocal snippets. Listen to this with the headphones on to appreciate the hard panned snips coming at you from opposite sides. It may sound like most people’s nightmare to have several Mariah’s talking away in stereo but I feel it works really well using parts of spoken word rather than song lyrics.
Give it a spin and I’m sure you might just surprise your next audience by inviting Mariah Carey to the party and not clear the building.
