Leon and Pirupa // Bassline [Get Digital Musical]

Leon and Pirupa take things fully retro with with this EP with more than a passing resemblance to the excellent Party Non Stop from earlier in the year.
Bassline goes off like a box of glowsticks at a rave, with breakbeat, euphoric vox and a synth line that may have Spielberg reaching for his phone. To counterpoint that White Off drives a percussive excursion that also racks up a pile of samples which are stacked with retro appeal and flavour.
The sounds are blended very well and sound like they have been generated on a classic Akai S1100 sampler. If you check the length of the samples – ie. the bass, percussion and vocal samples – they are all very short in comparison to most modern music. The effects on the EP sound genuine too in that they are quite basic, but this does fit in line with the EP.
It’s good stuff but a warmer, fuller, overall sound perhaps in the mastering could have made this EP a killer. Regardless, you should still check this out to see if this ticks the boxes for you.
