Joe Europe // Idiot Box [Falk]
Those generous chaps over at Falk were kind enough to share with us an advanced copy of their latest offering, the 3 track ‘Idiot Box’ ep from the uber talented Joe Europe. Here’s what we made of it……
All three cuts are of the vintage deep house variety, laced with keys, pads and strings…… exactly what you need in your life on a warm summer evening (the only one so far this year). On closer inspection, it is the title track that really stands out for me. Dominated by a bubbling acid house bass, the groove is infectious and fantastically complemented by the eerie spoken vocals. ‘Idiot Box’ is one of those tracks that just builds from start to end and keeps you moving throughout. Plaudits to that man Mr Europe!
Of course, that’s not to say that ‘Into the Woods’ and ‘Spacehead’ are not worthy of your attention. Both are strong releases and certainly merit their place on this fine ep. But when all is said and done, it is definitely the feature track that get’s this idiot’s vote…… high praise indeed.
