Floorplan // Altered Ego [M-Plant]

Since being formed back in 1994, Robert Hood’s seminal M-Plant has represented his take on the Detroit sound with aplomb.
From the moment Altered Ego kicks, we know that we are getting another dose of serious, straight to the mainline, techno medicine. All about the groove, with a nod to DJ Pierre’s Wild Pitch sound of yore, it varies little in essence, but nags away, then alters accordingly in its own time across seven minutes culminating in an angular raw kick drum in a manner that will do justice to any big room this summer.
Confess on the other hand is a soul-tinged, lets-go-to-church vibe as hinted at on recent Floorplan material on the same label. The piano sounds like one down your local community hall and the loop plays away as if a full gospel choir are about to enter the building. On this occasion, they don’t but it is a call-to-arms, feelgood burst of techno yes that will remove the roof from many a solidly constructed building.
If you are attending any of the many festival gigs that Mr Hood will be gracing this season…prepare, as ever, to be blessed and mind-blasted in one fell swoop. Another gem on this fine label.
