Fish Go Deep // Being Supreme [Go Deep Recordings]
The latest offering from recent SHA interviewees Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson is a strong but subtle effort on their own Go Deep Recordings label.
The original mix of Being Supreme soon gives us a tough kick coupled with a lovely jazzy string element before we’re smashed down into a great bass-line. To some, the bass might seem vicious at first but, for me, and when the other elements fall into place it drives the track along nicely.
A purposeful piano riff lifts and carries us with some Floyd-esque vox to the break. This builds nicely before dropping us back into the hypnotic drive of this tune. The final break expands the vocal a little then reminds us just how filthy that bass-line is, as it drives things out, before it fading away in the remainder of the track – which has been tight and additive throughout.
The Dub is obviously a more stripped back version and is slightly tougher and direct for it. The bassline comes across a bit funkier with fewer hats giving a more precise delivery. The vox and other elements are stabbier here too, but this by no means detracts from the toe-tappingness of the original. All in all, a solid release and well recommended for any dancefloor. Nice!
