DJ W!ld // We Almost Lost Detroit EP [The W Label]
The irrepressible DJ W!ld has another EP for the masses, while his second LP may have just hit the shelves (and he is busy doing interviews for SHA) don’t be fooled into thinking quality control may be out the window, this is an absolute treat and deserves to smash speakers at his DC10 Circoloco residency.
First up on the 4 tracker is Nightcrawlers Push The Feeling On sample sharing Bibiz. In traditional W!ld style we start with chunky raw beats for a couple minutes before a throbbing pulse comes forth introducing all manner of chopped vocal samples and the familiar hook starts to rise in the background. A minute so later when the beat comes back in and the hook takes centre stage, it’s all going off, believe me, I have played this track out and the crowd have done just that (and if you dont believe me, watch it work for W!ld). This will be heard all over summer, mark my words.
Next is Utopia. His trademark beats commence with a series of horns to let us know something good is on the way. W!ld uses sampled loops against a backdrop of almost Christmas-like bells. It’s all very pretty and the sampled vocals catchy. Again, another dancefloor appreciated track.
Rounding up the pack we have the double B side starting with title track We Almost Lost Detroit. The track is a glitchy disco sampling workout sure to raise some smiles. Finally we have When I Leave You where W!ld returns to the chunky drawn out intro before introducing some playful crowd cheer and filtered bass breakdowns.
We may not have the weather you would want for the summer quite yet but we now have the soundtrack.
