DJ Sneak // Necessary Evils [Desolat]

DJ Sneak takes time out from giving SHM a shoeing on the internet to release a four tracker on Desolat, and it looks like the big fella is still mad – mad as hell. With tracks bearing names like ‘Beat Some Sense Into You’ and ‘Assault On You’, the self-styled house gangster would appear to be sending out a message that is about as subtle as a thoroughbred’s head at the foot of the bed but, admittedly, much easier to dance to.
Getting down to the nitty gritty, the latter uses repetitive block chords, and samples pilfered from The Jungle Brothers, Lynn Collins and Thrust to colour a typically militant Sneak beat-fest, while the former zips along at a fair old pace, using more old school samples to punctuate a relentlessly jackin’ groove. ‘Evil Wemen’ adds disco strings and jabbing snares to the equation leaving ‘Nobody Better’ to round things off. As far as titles go, ‘Nobody Better’ might seem a touch hubristic to non-believers, but then again he is entirely correct. Nobody does “Sneak” better than Sneak.
