Darius Syrossian // My Side Project [Mile End Records]

My Side Side project sees Darrius Syrossian filter and fillet what sounds to me like ‘Boogie Wonderland’ and garnish it with rasping stabs and swinging beats drums straight from the Todd Terry song book circa 1994, as far as homages to Todd the God go, it’s not the worst I’ve heard, but It wouldn’t necessarily have me reaching for my wallet to buy it either.

On the other hand, ’1994 Session’ (see what I did there?), whilst taking its cues from the same era, sounds much fresher than the title cut. Again the groove swings like a Todd Terry track, but the pleasantly bubbling acidic bassline and effect drenched chords work well together to build and release tension – making it well worth your download dollar.
