Parisian Chris Carrier brings the third release on this label and is joined by Kate Simko for a remix. So, plenty enough reason to check it all out.
If Holic sounds familiar, it is because, for five years now, they have hosted parties in both London and Tokyo and label boss Tomoki Tamura did the sensible thing by asking his guests to do some tracks. Mr G and Tuccillo were the first two artists previously called upon.
So we get opener “Le Troquet du Coin” which translates to “small café on the corner” but is perhaps more suited to a large room in the basement as it surges through the system with joyous thump and minimum gear change. Relentless, house-paced and menacing though it is, we do await something additional that doesn’t quite arrive.
“Love Bug” is a quirkier animal using clonky drums before breaking into a mysteriously jazzy break that adds filth and a seriously underground attitude. Faith Fanzine favourite Kate Simko then addresses it with a trademark mix of fresh stabs, minor breaks and a wonderfully distant and lost feel. Finally, the label boss adds a mix that is more a variation on the theme.
Well enough executed enough is this release but it is perhaps more of a “work” record than main eventing hit.
