Carlo Gambino & Al Bradley // Automatick [3am Recordings]

No steadier hand guides the ship than that of its captain, and this certainly proves true with 3am’s Al Bradley taking control of the helm in a collaborative affair with Carlo Gambino.
The original incarnation of Automatick is by far the strongest, and deepest, of the tracks on offer. A familiar choral vocal sample—one that I cannot place, although this is unsurprising as I am a fellow that tends to operate in “that track with the voice on” terms when it comes to internal trainspotting—gently nags at the corners of your consciousness, cradling you down into hypnosis. Narcolepsy is avoided thanks to a low brassy swoop that interjects into the ethereal atmosphere.
Both remixes aim squarely at bringing the tempo and momentum upwards; Nick Devon with some rather overly standard funky House beats and keys, and Ceri with a bassy and yet thin atmosphere. However the all encompassing blanket of the original just serves to extinguish these two pretending flames with its billowing deft touch.
