Andrew Grant & Lomez // Has To Be Love [My Favorite Robot]
Circoloco resident Andrew Grant and Baltimore’s Lomez team up for this latest audio concoction on My Favourite Robot. The title track has some serious elements of 80s electronica – in particular New Order’s seminal ‘Technique’. The arrangement makes for a refreshing listen, despite the obvious influences and really delivers when the vocal drops over the bells dancing merrily in the background. Add to this some oh-so-cute yet pronounced acidized synths and we are finishing the track with aplomb.
The Amarali Interpretation is a great piece of electronica. It works well, splintering the originals samples and adding some real depth and feel. Introspective and beautiful production work here almost take this into the realms of avante-guard, however, there is enough restraint and savvy to make sure things hold together. Excellent and definitely recommended.
Distant Thunder takes an altogether more reserved techy route, with some hynoptic keys and lovely strings and keys punctuating the track well which means this’ll be one thats ideal for the pre-club or post club, depending on how deep you like your vibes.
Be Free is great slab of downtempo loveliness. Whether is the deep and powerful beats, lazy phat bassline or pitch perfect arrangement, this one is a winner from start to end. Some great harmonies can be found hereto , toying with the vocals amid some delicate hat-work and soaring synths. This’ll sound epic wherever it’s played and a real head turner of tune , more please!!
