Over the course of its five releases to date, Andrew Grant’s EDEC label has treated us to some of the freshest of electronic sounds from artists including Egal 3, DVS1, Ryan Elliot, Jon Hester and Andrew himself.
Defying the ‘genre’ tags, EDEC continue to surprise with each new release. After enjoying the raw techno of 005, the label chief takes us in a different direction with his latest work.
This is quality deep US-influenced house that warrants repeat plays for its simple approach and punchy production. In original form, warm pads fluctuate and immerse the listener that references the early 2000s sounds of labels like Seasons and producers like Fred Everything. Excellent.
New York’s DJ Qu adds a choppy and haunting version that chugs away amidst dark atmospherics in a manner that is more journey-like in approach – more Berlin than Big Apple and equally worth a play peaktime.
Rounding off an excellent release is an additional track “Wicky” which again has that low slung realness of 3rd Wave, doing seemingly little but proving to be the perfect groove a la Mood II Swing. Strong release on an emerging label.
