Alli Borem // Industry [Root 50 Music]

Alli Borem released a couple of very interesting tracks last year on Desolat that attracted attention from Dubfire and more underground DJs as well. Squelchy, tripped out spoken word grooves that stood out from the crowd and put me in mind of a male Nina Kraviz in the making.

However, this release is more of a mainstream and contemporary affair for the main room. This is slightly disappointing as there is less here to differentiate the release from so many others. The message seems to be “We are industry…” as in the music or DJing industry perhaps but it isn’t 100% clear.

All the remixes from DJ Kool Dek, M.in and Mocromism are well enough executed but lack the personality I was expecting from the release.

However, the original is rather more along quirky lines with an almost Prince-like funk about the beats and that sleaze factor in the groove. However, it doesn’t match those Desolat tracks and it would be great to see if there is more personality behind the sound…I suspect there is. Bring us more!
