Alex Under // Hora De Aventuras [Soma]

Alex Under continues to fire out releases, on his new home of Soma, with another pair of fresh and direct Tech House tracks. Rubbery bass stretches its way through the bouncy and undeniably peak time El Perro, breaking to a rushy siren before being allowed to boing off once again. Opting for a more subtle approach, El Humano is slower, letting a darker, click laden atmosphere power proceedings for a more eyes down moment. Both tracks may not be chin strokingly clever, but they are big, and sometimes you just want big.
There is a flurry of remixes along the originals, Fernando Sanz lightens El Humano with a dubby synth stab, although I cannot decide whether this provides a constant tension, or a constant sense of anticlimax as you wait for developments. His work on El Perro is much more entertaining, and my pick of the release, managing to tame the rampant bass inside a blissful melodic glide, fluid and mesmeric. Cesar Martinez has his name pinned to a remix of El Humano, but it feels like it could be a meeting of minds between both of Alex’s originals; dark and menacing with its minimal clicks and bassy pulse, yet with a certain skip thanks to its brisk pace and bright percussion.
Straight up Tech House that holds no surprises, but as such does exactly what you anticipate.
